„Chavgi” is an old Bulgarian custom, which is performed on the church holiday of Shrovetide. The tradition has existed for centuries and still is still preserved in a few places throughout the country. The ritual with which the holiday is linked requires the making of wooden arrows - „chavgi” which after the fall of darkness are lit and thrown. The first is always dedicated to the Lord, followed by the chavgas for the cattle, for the people and that for the head of the family.
The folk choir of the village of Krepost was founded in 1953. It practices authentic a cappella singing without accompaniment. Its repertoire includes more than 50 songs, all from local folklore. The songs and singing technique are learned and passed down by the performers from generation to generation. The current singers in the choir are the daughters and granddaughters of the original founders.
